Tartar ablation is the removal of soft (bacterial plaque) and hard (tartar) deposits and extrinsic pigmentations from all dental surfaces through the use of ultrasonic and manual instruments, such as scalers. Then, what is called "polishing" of the dental surfaces is carried out using a toothbrush or cups and abrasive pastes, aimed at polishing the dental surfaces after the ablation of tartar. Whitening is an aesthetic dental treatment aimed at changing the shade of the patient's natural tooth color. The products used for this purpose, commonly referred to as “whitening agents”, mainly contain hydrogen peroxide and carbamide, which release oxygen in contact with the tooth surface. These oxygen molecules break up the pigment molecules responsible for the dyschromia, making them no longer visible.
